From the article you will learn, among others: how to wash linen? how to dry linen how to iron linen what linen washing agents are recommended?
In order for the purchased product to bring joy and serve for a long time, it is necessary to follow the recommendations given in the label. Today we would like to remind you of some of the most important rules:
It is best to wash tablecloths separately so that they can move freely in the drum of the washing machine, they are not compressed and rinsed well. Colored tablecloths in light shades should be washed separately from those in saturated colors. White tablecloths should always be washed separately. The right choice of detergent, its amount, washing program have a key impact on the effectiveness of the process.
Use a delicate wash cycle, use the lowest possible water temperature, spin at a low speed of about 400 rpm to avoid heavy creases. At the end of the wash cycle, it is best to remove the laundry as soon as possible and shake the fabrics to minimize creasing and make ironing easier. Avoid pre-soaking colored tablecloths as well as leaving the tablecloth wet and folded after washing.
In the case of refreshing linen items that have only been slightly dusty, for example, hand washing is strongly recommended. During hand washing, linen items should not be wrung or rubbed, at the end of the wash, only gently squeeze the water out.
Linen textiles may shrink after washing, within the limits of the norm, provided that the rules of care are observed.
Use mild detergents to wash pure linen and linen/cotton fabrics. The use of strong detergents and agents containing chlorine is excluded. It is not recommended to use detergents with enzymes for washing, as they can deform the thread.
Make sure you dose the detergent correctly. Excess detergent can result in it remaining on the fibers and this is the main cause of stiffening fabrics.
Textiles made of colored fabrics in contrasting colors are best washed with detergents for colored fabrics that do not contain bleaching substances. For white tablecloths, use a detergent for white fabrics. In the case of heavy soiling, bleach can be used, but only for white fabrics. When washing by hand, the detergent should be dissolved in water, not applied directly to the fabric.
Do not use fabric softener for rinsing, as it is intended for synthetic fabrics, not natural ones.
We also never chemically clean linen products.
Avoid tumble drying to avoid weakening the linen fibres. Natural drying in an upright position is preferred. After removing the tablecloth from the washing machine, it should be shaken slightly before hanging, so that it takes the right shape.
It is best to dry linen in the open air, where we have free air circulation - e.g. on a balcony string or spread it on a dryer. Do not expose laundry to direct sunlight. However, if you want to dry the tablecloth in the bathroom, do not leave it for long if there is no good ventilation there.
Linen products should not be over-dried so that they can be easily ironed. Linen dries very quickly. Remember to take it off when it's still slightly damp.
The specificity of linen fabrics is that during washing, the fibers deform and when they dry, they can form folds. It is recommended to gently pull the still wet fabric in the right directions, thanks to which the fibers will then regain their original structure after washing and drying.
It is recommended to start ironing when linen or linen/cotton products are slightly damp, then it is easier to smooth out any creases. If the fabric has already dried, you can spray it with a little water.
It is best to iron from the left side at a temperature not exceeding 150°C using steam during ironing. To ensure safe ironing, you can do it through a cloth. The label on the product packaging indicates the correct temperature of the iron.
In conclusion, like any woven fabric, linen, linen-cotton and semi-linen fabrics have their own characteristics that should be taken into account. The right approach and compliance with the recommendations on the labels will make textiles - tablecloths, table runners, towels - made entirely of linen or with an admixture of cotton stay in your homes for a long time!
