How to wash linen? How to iron linen? How to dry linen? At what temperature should you wash linen? Do not worry! Although linen fabrics and products sewn from them, natural, white and colored, are easy to care for, it should be noted that linen products sewn in combination with other materials or non-linen accessories may require a slightly different way of care. Familiarize yourself with the universal rules on how to care for linen.
Laundry is one of the most important elements of the care of linen and linen-cotton products. In order for these products not to spoil, the linen washing process should be approached properly - with knowledge of the matter. Careful washing of linen significantly extends its life. So the first thing to start with is preparation.
Hard water will require a softener, preferably odorless, such water facilitates washing and the linen product will retain its softness. Individual linen products should only be washed with similar colours. Make sure all other items in the washing machine are similar to linen in color, weight, and washing instructions.
Make sure that linen textiles are not too tight and that they can move freely in the drum of the washing machine. Use the gentlest wash cycle available and spin at a low speed of 400-600 to avoid severe fiber damage and heavy creases. Pulling, wringing, squeezing, twisting or scrubbing will damage the linen fibres. Always refer to the maintenance instructions provided with the products.
To wash tablecloths with linen, use mild detergents: natural gray soap or powder. It is forbidden to use strong detergents, bleaches and other agents containing chlorine as they weaken the linen fibres, may discolor the fabric and have a negative impact on their durability. We also never chemically clean linen tablecloths. Do not use fabric softener for rinsing, as it is intended for synthetic fabrics, not natural ones. In any case, always look at the information on the label. It is not recommended to use detergents with enzymes for washing.
Drying requires attention and some knowledge. The preferred method of drying linen is traditional drying in a vertical position. After washing, linen items should be hung up to dry. To keep your linen fabric smelling fresh, don't leave it in the bathroom for long if there isn't good ventilation. It is best to dry linen in the open air, where we have free air circulation. Do not expose laundry to direct sunlight. We do not recommend using a mechanical dryer so as not to weaken the linen fibres. Linen products should not be dried to make them easy to iron and look good.
In order for tablecloths to retain their original appearance for a long time, they must not only be washed and dried properly, but also ironed. Despite the fact that linen ironing is not always necessary and your own preferences have a large impact on it, if you decide to do this, it is worth remembering that linen or linen-cotton products should still be slightly damp. The second way to iron well is to spray the fabric with water or use steam during ironing. Well thought-out linen ironing significantly extends its life. The label on the package contains information about the proper temperature of the iron for linen.
By following the tips above, you will not only keep your linen items looking good for many years, but also make it easier to care for them. What's more, linen products are not the most "capricious" of those on the market. The main thing is the right approach. Now you know that linen care is not difficult at all! Or price linen in your home, know its properties and feel the comfort of this wonderful fiber!
Following the recommendations on the labels will ensure that your linen products will look as they did on the day of purchase for a long time.
